A similar vase, dating to the Song dynasty in the collection of the British Museum is illustrated in Jessica Rawson, The British Museum Book of Chinese Art, London, 1992, no. 50, where it is noted that flasks of this type have been recovered from Song dynasty hoards, buried in Sichuan province at the time of the invasions of the Mongols in the 13th century.
