Although the form is reminiscent of archaic bronzes, the decoration on this unusual pair of vases appears to take its inspiration from Qing imperial porcelain. The five-clawed dragons amid clouds, the acanthus leaves, various lappet patterns and classic scroll bands can all be found on enameled porcelain wares of the Qing period.
