此器刻畫長者與童子於山間小路向遠處觀望之情景。正面人物處理不僅符合兩者之身份，亦顯示了兩者性格不同、所喜不同。人物身後山石圓渾，前方崖邊小樹緊密，兩者形成疏密對比。背面巧用橫向竹隔，直向山體作大刀闊斧之處理，鏤空應用以增山體厚度。作品通理得氣，鬆緊有度，整體飽滿渾厚，人物神態之刻畫，使作品呈現景外之景。
