Sale, London, Christie's South Kensington, 10 July 2009, lot 182 (as Circle of Henri-Pierre Danloux).
Condition
The canvas has an old and firm relining, the paint surface is stable with no major damages visible, only two tiny pinprick losses, one lower left, one just below the feather of the quill, bottom right. The varnish is clear and even, and fluoresces opaquely under ultra violet light so very little restoration is visible, only some touches to minimise the effect of craquelure in the flesh tones and the sitters right shoulder. There is an area of strengthenings to the dark tones to the right of the whites of the mans neck tie. In good overall condition.
Offered in a gilt plaster and wood frame in fair condition.
