非關輕重:勁健與雄渾

如果說勁健代表著動感,雄渾代表著量感,朱銘的銅雕則在動感與量感之間,超脫了原材的輕,和成品之重。反應了藝術家的視界,早已脫離傳統雕塑的範疇,而對材料的使用和造型能力,俱備了完全的把握。相較於亨利‧摩爾將石膏翻模為小型原樣後,再放大為大型雕塑;朱銘在銅雕的製作上,直接就原尺寸削刻後翻模鑄銅,因而得以為不同大小的作品,注入不同的力度、量體與質地。

九○年代的大型「太極系列」中,朱銘更為大刀闊斧,加強塊面的分割,以強調人體的結構,使其在巨大的量體中,仍可表現瞬即的運動感。此一運動感顯見於《太極系列:單鞭下勢》(拍品編號1005)中,表現的是蹲身仆步、轉體穿掌、與弓腿起身的連動過程。太極拳套路中,有上即有下,而單鞭下勢為其中重心最低的招式,先沉身閃避,同時蓄勢待發,進而起身攻擊。單鞭下勢來自張三豐對蛇鵲相鬥的觀察,他發覺當鵲俯衝攻擊蛇時,蛇卻以仰視之姿,輕身搖首閃避,在攻防之時所採取的低姿態,具體展現了「以柔克剛,後發制人」的功夫真諦。朱銘的「太極系列」雕塑,如同他最欣賞的草書,具有強烈的時間性和動態感,亦或可與中國古代書畫所講究的動勢相比較。動勢來自於構局,而朱銘雕塑的動態感亦來自於構局。在快速而準確的刀法運用中,朱銘的雕塑呈現愈發明確的構局感,因而帶出流暢的動勢,和具有張力的速度感。

「朱銘是有重量感的,這點和日本近代雕刻家相同;朱銘是有動感的,這也和日本近代雕刻家相同。但是日本雕刻家中卻沒有人像朱銘一樣兼具兩種特」。
