「曾健勇的人物畫具有相對固定的形象，脫胎於他自己、妻子、兒子並綜合了其他親友而形成的幾個主角形象一再重複出現，可以說具有某種『類自畫像』的氣質。創作這種自畫像作品的時候，自我、身體既是繪畫行為的主體，又是繪畫作品的主題。站在畫前的自己既是一個在觀看的人，又是一個被自己和他人觀看的對象，在鏡像和自我意識之間是諸種目光的相互交織、補充、侵蝕和循環建構，這種自我裂解式的反覆審視或許是造成他的繪畫特徵的最重要的哲學基石。」
