1960年作的《無題》已初露趙無極六〇年代畫風之蕭颯勁瑟,其五〇年代後期標誌性的甲骨文符號在此被加以解構,演變成一些沒有描繪性的細碎短促的筆痕。這些零散的筆觸彷彿被一種龍捲風般的內心力,抓聚在以銅褐色基調的光影空間中,聚焦形成一個能量碰撞的視覺中心,並將其餘無聲的環境虛化、釋放,賦予了作品向上升揚、脈動不止的感觀力量。
從畫面效果看,這幅作品沒有任何具象的或陳述性的踪跡。但相較於西方抽象在繪畫上偏重的形式架構,趙無極所延承的是數千年來中國文人墨客藉畫寓情,不執拗於實景實物,而更重書寫其內在微觀的傳統。正如藝術家自言,「我以為所有畫家的創作對於自身來說都是寫實的」,他心中所欲表達的意象始終是清晰、明確的。在構圖、節奏、顏色的三重調和下,他建立了一種能描述風,表現虛空與光線,畫出其思想與感受的抒情語彙。藝術家將大自然無形的變化與躍動的生命力在筆下貫注,為觀者鋪展了一個如置身於夢境般的現實。
