Condition
There is an old glue relining which is firm and stable. the paint surface has been slightly pressed in the relining process. the detail overall remains very good and the colors are strong. there is a slight degree of thinness in the browns of the background and to some of the darks of the foliage. under UV light the surface fluoresces unevenly. there are only a few very small retouches to some of the flowers and fruit. there is some reinforcement to the outlines on the vase and some retouching along the edges.

When last sold (see Provenance), this work was offered in sequence with a similarly composed pendant, now located in the Evansville History and Science Museum of Arts, Evansville, Indiana (inv.no. 1979.33).
We are grateful to Fred G. Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague, for confirming the attribution to Veerendael following first hand inspection. Meijer considers this a late work by the artist.
