Anonymous sale ("From a Private Collection"), New York, Christie's, 11 January 1989, lot 176 (as Jan Brueghel the Younger).

This painting is executed on a single piece of oak which has been beveled on all four sides. The panel is flat, stable, and in healthy condition. The paint layer is generally healthy with no major damages visible to the naked eye. UV light reveals scattered in painting applied within the craquelure throughout the sky and in very fine weave pattern. There are other numerous but very retouches throughout the craquelure in the middle ground and in the foreground. This re-painting appears to be for cosmetic purposes to reduce or eliminate signs of cracking and do not repair any holes or damages. The repaint has been applied rather well and the picture could be hung in its current state, though a fresh varnish could enliven the paint surface. In a carved wood and faux tortoise frame.
