According to the consignor, this brooch and earclip set was designed by Russian-born jewelry designer Olga Tritt. In 1910, Olga Tritt founded her jewelry house in New York City; she was known for her expertise on pearls and colored precious stones. After working as a goldsmith in Brazil, she traveled to India to further study rubies, sapphires and emeralds and to further experience further the source of these gemstones. Her expertise translated into her work as she worked with many different precious colored stones. This is apparent in the cabochon sapphire cluster-form brooch as well as in the matching earrings of lot 275. Olga Tritt’s expertise was known to such an extent that the Brazilian government commissioned her to design a collection of jewelry for the New York World Fair to showcase the Brazilian-sourced colored gemstones the country was so proud of.
