This cigar box exemplifies the impact of Eastern inspirations explored by Cartier during the Art Deco era. The use of triangle-shaped motifs on the hinges is reminiscent of the use of star-shaped patterns in both Indian and Islamic architecture. The crisp edges of these triangle-shaped motifs are in stark contrast to the flowing wave pattern that is natural to the moss agate. The subtle use of the white enamel serves to tie these two elements together in a harmonious, complementary design. These elements are a trademark of Cartier designer Charles Jacqueau, who often looked to architecture for inspiration and sought to combine design with function.
