此熏爐光澤熠熠，爐身碩大渾圓。其形始於西周禮器鼎，爐身多作扁球形，彎足自根部所飾獸嘴而出。其紋亦新穎獨特，將中國神話中的龍，佛教之珍珠，道家之八卦合而一統。爐蓋飾八卦紋多見於明朝，比較一立耳鼎式爐，爐身飾鶴壽，階梯式爐蓋由中心自邊緣分別飾以雙錢紋，卍字紋及八卦紋，售於紐約佳士得2008年3月19日，編號338；另有一明萬曆款青花爐，八卦紋圍飾蟠龍頂鈕，爐身長方形立於四足之上，售於倫敦蘇富比2009年11月4日，編號68。
八卦及道教元素，早於唐代便作為裝飾見諸中國銅器之上。可參一唐代銅鏡例，中心銅鈕周圍飾以四方框「十二地支」及八卦紋一週，售于紐約蘇富比2014年9月16-17日，編號9192；另有 Paul Freeman 氏藏元代銅瓶例，瓶身飾八卦紋，售於紐約蘇富比2015年3月21日，編號759。
