  • bronze
with a pear-shaped body supported on a splayed foot, sweeping up to a waisted neck and flared rim, finely cast with a broad archaistic band of writhing kui dragons forming a taotie mask on each side, reserved on a ground of leiwen and divided by vertical flanges forming the handles, all detailed with gold and silver inlays, the foot encircled by two raised fillets, the bronze elegantly patinated to a dark brown colour with malachite undertones

Condition

This elegant vessel is in overall good condition. There is some expected light pitting or small patches of oxidisation in areas, occasional scratches or light dents, including a shallow horizontal dent on the shoulder below the archaistic border on one side. There are a few or typical nicks to the rim and footrim.
