據清宮造辦處檔案記載,雍正皇帝親自參與瓷器設計,規定造型、尺寸、紋飾。要求紋飾要講究輪廓線條,重視氣勢和神韻。御用瓷器必須經他的審定,方可燒造,可見雍正帝的審美情趣及力臻完美的風格。
一相似例售香港蘇富比1978年5月23日,編號131,著《天民樓藏瓷》,香港,1987年,圖版53。一例售紐約蘇富比1997年9月23日,編號282。此類盤另有繪纏枝瓜果紋飾,折沿飾風格各異的海浪紋,曾為靜觀堂收藏,展於《Gems of Chinese Art: Selections of Chinese Ceramics and Bronzes from the Tsui Art Foundation》,亞洲文明博物館,新加坡,1992年,編號95。另一例售倫敦蘇富比1988年6月7日,編號273。
稍小的永樂朝原形,盤心繪纏枝瓜果三枚,原為吳賚熙、Eumorfopoulos 及 Brankston 收藏,現藏倫敦大英博物館,見霍吉淑,《Ming Ceramics in the British Museum》,倫敦,2004年,圖版3:34。另一例為上海博物館館藏,見汪慶正,《青花釉裏紅 》,上海,1987年,圖版60。
瓜,因秦朝東陵侯邵平的故事而為後人所喜愛。秦朝滅亡後,邵平貶為布衣,因家貧,於長安城東種瓜為生。種瓜有五色,瓜美,世稱東陵瓜。陶淵明詩曰:「邵生瓜田中,寧似東陵時」,他以歷史故事來說明「衰榮無定在,彼此更共之」,證明沒有永遠的榮華富貴的哲理。後人以瓜為紋飾,如《詩經.大雅.綿》云:「綿綿瓜瓞,民之初生,自土沮漆」,寓瓜瓞綿綿之意,祝頌子孫昌盛,連綿不斷。
瓜果題材流行於宋朝水墨,元朝始用以裝飾青花瓷器,盛行於明。一元末明初冊頁,鈐成化印,曾展於《Seven Classical Paintings》,Eskenazi Ltd., 倫敦,2009年,編號7。
