It is rare to find a Jiaqing reign-marked jade bowl of this large size and quality. The quality and colour of the stone is exceptional, and it has been skillfully worked and polished in the distinctive and pronounced shape of its porcelain counterparts. For a pair of smaller bowls, incised with similar reign marks, see the pair illustrated in Robert Kleiner, Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 90, subsequently sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 28th November 2006, lot 1393. Compare also a similar bowl sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 8th October 2014, lot 3739, and another sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30th May 2012, lot 3953.
