五彩龍鳳紋盌始燒於康熙，至晚清歷朝均有沿襲。此類盌為後宮用瓷，在《國朝宮史》記載中由皇太后到各級妃嬪所用瓷器均有明確規定，並說明由皇太后到「常在」都可以用龍紋。五彩龍鳳紋盌正是「常在」的規定用瓷。

南京博物院藏三種不同尺寸清康熙五彩龍鳳紋盌，曾展於《清瓷萃珍：清代康雍乾官窰瓷器》，香港中文大學文物館，香港，1995年，編號26；另一對藏上海博物館，見《上海博物館藏康熙瓷圖錄》，香港，1998年，圖版 153。清宮舊藏尺寸各異的康熙五彩龍鳳紋盌分別展出於法國凡爾賽宮及著錄於1999年香港出版《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集‧五彩‧鬪彩》，圖版135。
