釋文：連城之璧，隱頑石而藏輝；照乘之珠，孕深淵而秘彩。若夫象以齒而焚身，翠因毛而殞命，銜其智者，小智而已矣。故曹溪妙契五祖，而執勞負辛以韜光；慈明親見汾陽，而含垢忍恥以匿跡。「大智如愚」，非此之謂乎？頌曰「不智之智，名曰真智。蠢然其容，靈輝內熾。用察為明，古人所忌。學道之士，晦以混世」。
款識：歲次鶉首（1931），慈水十輪寺沙門僧胤，時居蘭阜山陽。鈐印：弘一、李廬、佛像肖形印
注：「鶉首」即「未」，弘一自出家（1918）至圓寂（1942），地支為「未」者，僅1919及1931年。查弘一於1930年曾赴慈溪講律，而款識中所記「蘭阜山」即在慈溪西南方，是以此幅應為1931作。
