描述
of characteristic form, the curving toprail continuing to the armrests with curled back ends, the back corner posts continuing to the back legs below the rectangular seat, the gently curved back splat carved with a ruyi head in low relief, the front apron carved with two interlocking leafy stems, the legs connected to a footrest and stretchers, the wood of a rich honey-brown tone with an attractive patina
Condition
The chairs are in good overall condition, preserving their original patina. On the underside of both of the chair seats there are two wood supports which may have been later added to strengthen the chairs, as the texture of the wood is different. One of the chairs has a 5cm hole to the underside of the lower stretcher, possibly a natural hole aggravated by insects.
As clearly visible in the catalogue photo, there are other bruises, dents, scratches and general surface wear to both chairs, as expected of pieces of this age and fragility.
