《無題(黃昏暮靄)》於七十年代末創作,正值木心移居紐約之前。畫作表達他當時身處中國的境況,從而抒發恬靜沈思。木心不為純粹抽象約束,不受情緒苦惱所窘,其作品構圖不但向中國山水畫傳統致敬,更開創革新的創作技巧,對抽象藝術貢獻不少。他在傳統的水墨紙本畫作加入水粉,令筆下的山勢形態別有韻味,更帶點神秘稀奇。平滑的
畫面更反映暈染研磨之功,藝術家看來運用了凹雕版畫的常見技巧,似在畫幅塗上多層水墨,散發著溜若銀河、亮如石墨的光輝。深藍、黑色及一點紅褐色薈萃其中,構成色彩豐富的氛圍,使畫面各處生動有致,更帶出光影折射的效果。本作沉穩冷靜,發人深省,展望未來,如其寫作一般,帶出強烈的深切思量,呈現雅致氣質。
