《無題（黃昏暮靄）》於七十年代末創作，正值木心移居紐約之前。畫作表達他當時身處中國的境況，從而抒發恬靜沈思。木心不為純粹抽象約束，不受情緒苦惱所窘，其作品構圖不但向中國山水畫傳統致敬，更開創革新的創作技巧，對抽象藝術貢獻不少。他在傳統的水墨紙本畫作加入水粉，令筆下的山勢形態別有韻味，更帶點神秘稀奇。平滑的
畫面更反映暈染研磨之功，藝術家看來運用了凹雕版畫的常見技巧，似在畫幅塗上多層水墨，散發著溜若銀河、亮如石墨的光輝。深藍、黑色及一點紅褐色薈萃其中，構成色彩豐富的氛圍，使畫面各處生動有致，更帶出光影折射的效果。本作沉穩冷靜，發人深省，展望未來，如其寫作一般，帶出強烈的深切思量，呈現雅致氣質。
