彭薇與她的作品是當代文人的微觀世界。她深受傳統教育薰陶，更繼承其父彭先誠的水墨傳統，其作品卻表現出無可否認的當代氣息。她巧妙地把西方詩句與工筆意蘊互相糅合，卻仍然保留了傳統水墨細緻嚴謹的特質。
彭薇在新千年之初以傳統衣履創作了一系列作品。服飾的剪影輪廓只是其設計的媒介，它們看來是遵循漢、宋或明代的傳統衣著而作，卻又並不真正屬於某一年代。同樣地，畫面上的波浪圖案乍看似是臨摹古畫之跡，像是參照皇室綢緞或瓷器名品而作，然而細看之下，卻可發現其形態及圖案都並不忠於歷史。 雖然如此，觀者可從其時空交錯的動人畫作中找到避世之所，在風雅的頹唐景象中，尋找恬適安慰，欣賞古典雅緻的舊世界。
