王天德以水墨語言創作的《數碼》系列亦寫亦畫,用香或香煙焚燒宣紙而成。題目《數碼》不僅參考了現代科技術語,更表達了各獨立元素組成整體這一字面意思;傳統不是某種霸權的教條,而是眾多小型運動的集合。在此作品中,幾種紙本疊加在一起,彷彿藍綢裝裱的傳統立軸,深色部分則是留待題字之用。然而,藝術家將形式只看作是平面設計元素,而且用焚燒書法的方式來揭示形狀的空洞,由此顛覆了傳統創作方式。王天德是知名水墨畫家及書法家,在自己的燒燙書法畫作中保持了水墨感覺,在焚燒過後的負空間內仍然存留了同樣的流暢感與表現力。焚燒這一舉動代表了生命的真諦,而不是破壞與毀滅,也代表了中國美學中的「缺憾美」與「殘缺美」。成品並不僅為以柔美的負像吸引觀眾注意藝術家的創新手法或細節與形態的處理,而是概念藝術品,將中國文化精髓留存心底。
