在當代水墨藝術界中，劉丹無疑是出類拔萃的精英。他早年受傳統書畫訓練，創作三十年有餘，筆墨揮灑之間、空靈浩渺的意境。每作歷經冥想凝思，氣氛諧和寬暢、寧靜致遠。劉氏作品凝聚古希臘雕塑與傳統中國山水畫的古典美感。《浮雲》展現了劉丹奇幻無垠的宇宙心象，遙與中國古典文化與哲學相呼應，亦見文人賞石的靜觀自得。劉丹畫石如畫人，務先觀察入微，凡其過往、來由與內在精神，無不經一番度量思考；每一尊奇石皆蘊涵造物之奧妙。自古中國文人崇尚觀賞奇山怪石，好其自然天成、詭幻而不可測之狀，空靈自在宛如世外之物。文人石被視為大自然的微觀縮影，同時也是大千世界的一小部分。同樣地，劉丹作畫不為展現眼前之物，而是為表達默觀冥想的心跡。
