廣泛認為王無邪是香港現代主義水墨畫的引路者,，其作品中糅合傳統中國審美、西方文化與當代設計。王氏曾師從呂壽琨，研習中國傳統水墨，後於巴爾的摩市的馬里蘭藝術學院先後取得藝術學學士與設計學碩士學位。在海外求學期間，他受伊頓、克利、康丁斯基與亞伯斯等藝術家作品影響，不再拘泥於中國傳統美學觀念，逐漸轉向以抽象的水墨幾何形式表現山水風景。與此同時，他的畫作中繼續體現宋畫傳統中的雄渾氣韻，並同西方油畫傳統一樣，強調色調與光澤的運用。
