陳其寬憑妙想天開的構圖、異於常規的創作技巧，為文人傳統帶來新鮮的概念。陳其寬受訓為建築師，曾與包浩斯（Bauhaus）建築風格大師華特‧葛羅培斯（Walter Gropius）一同工作，還曾執教於麻省理工大學，並在台灣東海大學設計項目上與著名建築師貝聿銘合作。作為畫家，他擅於以創新的視野描繪自然景物，同時又保留了傳統水墨的美學特色。此件作品為他最具代表性的題材之一——獼猴系列，不僅表現出他流暢的筆墨技法，同時還有獨特的詼諧童趣。陳其寬雖身為建築家，卻於台北與紐約兩地舉辦不少個人畫展。其畫作破革創新，現為哈佛大學賽克勒考古與藝術博物館、牛津大學阿什莫林博物館、堪薩斯大學斯賓塞博物館、台北市立美術館與台北故宮博物院等永久收藏。
