註：元人中錢選得宋畫機趣，且作品清逸雅淡，故于非闇取法宋人，亦兼習之。本幅謂「戲摹」錢選之〈金瓜草蟲〉幛子，或得法於現藏台北故宮之〈秋瓜圖〉，畫翠色秋瓜一枚，藤蔓綽約，野草小花襯於其後。他取畫中秋瓜之造型，添加背景，後補草蟲，令畫面更形豐富。

本幅出諸沒骨法，坡地蔓草，瘦竹支架，皆色雅淡清麗，秋瓜則改翠綠為橘紅，燦若朱火，豐盈碩狀，高低佈置於墨葉藤枝纏繞間。又添螳螂、草蜢、蟋蟀、蝗蟲、蟈蟈，或追逐於坡地，或依附於枝蔓，或張臂逞威，或攀爬向上，皆以工筆細寫，極盡物態，生趣盎然，既合金秋時令，復寓瓜瓞綿綿祝頌之意。
