描述

  • jade
the elephant standing foursquare, caparisoned with a large saddle cloth detailed with a large sun among waves and further bats and chilong, supporting a vase incised with flowers and the yin yang symbol, wood stand; the spinach-green quatrefoil box set with of a pale celadon jade cover, intricately carved with a basket containing the 'Three Friends of Winter'

Condition

The elephant is in good overall condition, except for some typical occasional nibbling or minor nicks along the edges. The interior is likely to be hollowed; the vase forming a stopper which is now glued to the interior of the well to prevent it from falling. There are some natural pale brown veins in the stone as visible on the photo. The back feet may be polished towards the rear. The box and cover are in good overall condition. There is a minor nick as well as light nibbling to the rim of the box and further occasional nibbling to the rim the cover. The actual colour of the stones are somewhat warmer and more tinged with celadon compared to the catalogue illustration.
