貝爾納及安娜貝爾·布菲於1986年在法國南部普羅旺斯購下拉波美的莊園。此為貝爾納·布菲的最後一間居所，啟發他以此作為新作品系列的主題。安娜貝爾回想：「貝爾納當時決定把房子變成風景及室內佈置的畫作，如同為深愛的人描繪細緻的畫像...他希望保留當中的氣氛和美感，或許是以此展示他對房子的熱愛。您可從他的每一幅畫作體會到這種敏銳情感。貝爾納在這個獨特的地方找到了避難所，讓他可遠離充滿傷害的社會，從而重拾對繪畫的熱忱。對安寧生活的嚮往，更令他可重新尋求靜謐的境界。」
