仇德樹是抽象及水墨藝術的先鋒之一,重新以自己的方式演繹傳統,開闢出一片藝術新天地。仇氏生於上海,後師從著名水墨畫家陳家泠(1937年生)(拍品編號 32),共同成立了前衛獨立社團「草草社」,為首批藝術實驗團體之一。在這段時期,仇氏便開始運用「裂變」的撕裂拼接技法創作。本作繽紛綻放的色彩與戲劇化的裂紋周旋於具象與抽象之間。破壞與創造的過程在他的「裂變」系列中被忠實記錄,更可追溯自他的佛教背景。
仇氏作品中的抽象概念在現今全球化世代或許隨處可見,卻是當時的革新創見。諷刺的是,「草草社」展覽當時因帶有「抽象傾向」而被指斥,他亦因作為革新團體領袖被嚴詞批評。然而波士頓美術館次年於上海美術館舉辦美國藝術展覽,當中展出傑克森·波拉克的抽象藝術。仇氏受到抽象表現主義作品啟發,使他對抽象及水墨藝術的創作使命增添信心。
