本作原為何惠鑒之私人收藏，其為二十世紀最重要的亞洲藝術史學家之一。何教授曾聯同學者李雪曼參與克利夫蘭藝術博物館的展覽策劃，後擔任納爾遜藝術博物館顧問，他對佛教文獻、中國文學及書畫在西方的推廣與持續關注帶來莫大貢獻。他更撰寫不少有關中國藝術的書籍，為此學術領域奠定基礎。劉國松於1967年受邀到納爾遜藝術博物館舉行個展。對劉國松來說，當年更為他自1966年獲得約翰·D·洛克菲勒三世基金會贊助後展開的兩年世界之旅劃下圓滿句號，更為世界帶來了難能可貴的機會，提高了對這位藝術大師的關注。
