oval, on four formal panel supports, the wide cast and pierced border decorated with bacchanal figures, putti and panthers below grape-laden vines, entwined snake handles, the centre engraved with the Prince Regent's cypher within an inscription, the underside engraved with the recipient's initials in monogram (TG) above the date: '2nd. MAY, 1816,' further stamped: 'RUNDELL BRIDGE ET RUNDELL ARIFICES REGIS ET PRINCIPIS WALLIÆ REGENTIS BRITANNIAS,' and scratch engraved: '4219'; in original tooled leather case, the green baize lining with affixed printed paper label: 'RUNDELL, BRIDGE, / & RUNDELL / Goldsmiths Jewellers / Watch Makers &c /To their Majesties / Their Royal Highesses the / Prince Regent Duke of York / and ROYAL FAMILY,/ Ludgate Hill / LONDON'

Condition
marks and condition are extremely good. casting and texture crisp, engraving excellent. very light surface scratches commensurate with age.
the box is original, the green base and exterior covering of leather have deteriorated and need restoration.

這件珍貴的皇室御賜禮物在1851年之前一直不為人所知，直至伊莉薩·拜雷（Eliza Bray）為英國藝術家拓馬斯·斯托赫（Thomas Stothard，1755-1834年）撰寫的傳記上首次提到這件托盤。 她寫道：「關於銀器的內容大概到此為止，但在收筆之前，我想一提有關於這位偉大的藝術家不為人熟知的一件事實；他曾設計過許多精緻絕倫的雕刻盤子，當中有一件是為喬治四世（當時仍是攝政王）而造的橢圓形盤子，他設計了盤子的邊框，上面雕刻著許多如酒神般狂歡飲宴的人物……」
當年喬治王子（在繼位為喬治四世前）向他的首席珠寶金行——位於路勊希爾大街（Ludgate Hill）的布里奇與蘭岱爾工坊（Rundell, Bridge & Rundell）定製此托盤，以送贈予托馬斯·伽瑟將軍（General Thomas Garth，1744-1829年）；伽瑟將軍與皇室成員關係密切，是喬治三世的侍從武官；喬治王子之女、威爾斯公主夏洛特·奧古斯塔（Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales）與比利時的薩瑟·寇伯·撒爾斐親王雷奧柏特（Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld）成婚前，伽瑟將軍受命為公主的監護人。公主的婚禮在1816年5月2日（雕刻在盤面上）於倫敦珀墨街（Pall Mall）卡爾頓公館（Carlton House）的緋紅大廳（Crimson Drawing Room）舉行。
此托盤在著名金銀匠保羅•施托（Paul Storr）的工坊製造；連同原裝蘭岱爾（Rundell）盒子，一直由伽瑟將軍的家族後人保留至今。
