The glassmaking technique here is a combination of two techniques. A layer of colour has been sandwiched beneath two layers of glass, but additional polychrome fragments have been rolled into the outer layer. The sandwiched layer of colour visible at the neck seems limited and may go no deeper than the lower neck; it may be that a more striking inner layer was intended and then got lost in the process. The colours in the surface layer, made from sections of glass rods with multi-coloured patterns, are poorly controlled; many of the segments have lost their patterns completely as they became diffused into the surface.
