Emerald-green is a colour derived mainly from copper or iron, although this distinctly blue version may derive from other colouring agents (a somewhat similar colour has been produced recently by a German glassworks using a mixture of chromium, iron, and cobalt). The unusual bluish tint to the emerald green in this example separates its colour from the usual range of emerald-coloured glass, although even the gemstone can be bluish in hue. Of elegant form, it is superbly crafted, and its unusually dark bluish colour lends added distinction.
