拍品資料及來源

This is based on a drawing by Samuel van Hoogstraten, a Rembrandt pupil, which is now in the Frits Lugt Collection, Paris (see Literature).  Boucher made small changes to some figures and details, but most significantly eliminated the old man standing by the fireplace next to the man at the extreme left, and reduced the height of the composition.  Although the figures are in his characteristic style, he has nonetheless retained the atmosphere and lighting effects of the 17th-century original.  He must have seen the Hoogstraten on his visit to Holland in 1766, at which point it was in the famous Goll van Franckenstein collection in Amsterdam.  Another copy of the same work by Boucher is in the Albertina (inv. no. 1256).
