of archaistic jue form, the ‘U’-shaped body supported on three splayed triangular blade feet, cast on one side with a loop handle in the form of a mythical beast's head, a spout and rounded tail forming the rim, cast with a recessed panel enclosing a sixteen-character inscription below the spout, all surmounted by a pair of vertical posts terminating with hemispherical tips, the smooth bronze patina of a dark brown colour

Juecups are of particular interest to the academic and collector as they very often carry an inscription, frequently stating where, when and sometimes on whose orders they were made. The current vessel bears a particularly long, sixteen character, finely cast inscription, which reads:

"Made by Weibang and Weijie for Qian’s ancestral hall".

The cast inscription on the current vessel is evidently consistent with the time of manufacture.
