The movement is running at the time of cataloguing however the mechanism will require restoration to be fully operational. Gilding is worn to the brass movement. The numerals to the chapter rings are worn. Scuffs to the pink gold frame. There is a crack to the right hand side glazed panel. Overall a very interesting piece from the period.

The present timepiece has remained in the hands of the same family since it was first purchased in Paris at Hotel Drouot, Me Desvouges, 14 and 15 April 1919, through the Estate of Mme L.
It was described in the Gazette de l’Hotel Drouot as a: ‘Pocket regulator with five dials, mounted in gold with crystal glass, XVIII century’.
Only one other similar timepiece is known to collectors, this was sold in the Masterpieces from the Time Museum, Part Two, Sotheby's New York, 19th June, 2002, lot 56. Both present some similarities and have been kept in their original presentation cases. The present example has unique characteristics showing the full calendar to one side, with the specific feature of a disc showing planetary days of the week, whilst the other side has foliage decoration.
The example formerly in the collection of the Time Museum was signed ‘Kehloff’. Being of almost identical decoration and design and with its very specific type of escapement and calendar display, it is possible to make a similar attribution for the present watch to this late 18th century watchmaker. Kehloff is recorded by Abeler, in Meister der Uhrmacherkunst, as woking in Vienna during the late 18th century. An example of Kehloff’s work is in the Historisches Museum in Basle. A further watch bearing the signature Kehloff is recorded in the Ilbert collection which is kept at the British Museum in London.
