註：歷代畫家皆喜畫山茶，除了因為山茶傲霜，色彩鮮麗沉厚濃而不豔，也由於山茶雖屬單瓣，但是寬窄重迭極富變化之美。將西畫的光影色彩帶入其中，除了花朵向背深淺，再以朱砂朱膘洋紅胭脂畫出不同的紅色。葉片則以重彩表現厚度，甚至畫出邊緣鋸齒的微小變化。三隻白頭翁，一隻踞立枝頭高鳴，兩隻在空中追逐蜜蜂。繪畫以移情入物、蟲鳥擬人為旨，此圖既有氣韻生動的寫生之美，又有故事情節耐人玩味，堪為證。─ 劉墉
