註：季康，浙江慈谿人。出自世家名門，擅山水、花卉、仕女，與叔父季守正同享名於滬上藝壇。四九年赴台，曾任教於文化大學美術系，後移居美國。

居台時期，以仕女畫著稱，其筆下古典美人，艷而不俗，張大千見之，嘉許有甚。本幅寫於壯歲，以花王牡丹入畫，設色艷麗，氣派堂皇，乃其流傳較稀之早期工筆花卉。
