註：本幅題「古木幽禽」即臨自李迪名作〈雪樹寒禽圖〉，現藏上海博物館。李迪，河南孟縣人，活躍於南宋紹興年間，為畫院副使，擅畫花鳥竹石。〈雪樹寒禽圖〉具署款曰「淳熙丁未歲。李迪畫」，即淳熙十四年（1187），是所見李迪具年款作品最早的一幅。原畫乃絹本，畫面見枯樹於雪中，枝上棲山禽，傍補綴竹枝，竹葉塊面留白顯雪積之狀。背景墨染見雪天暗淡，復灑白粉呈飄雪之姿。
大千先生研習前賢技法，常登門拜訪收藏界巨擘，借觀、臨摹其藏品。龐萊臣書畫收藏富甲江南，自是他經常就教對象，李迪原畫即借臨於虛齋。若與該南宋劇迹相比，大千筆下固然逼肖神似，位置、細節經營如出一轍，但他非刻板地臨摹，稍將背景改動，保留枯幹禿枝，卻去掉了飛雪飄舞之嚴冬景象。具設色取秀麗清潤，突顯了竹葉之碧翠驕人，令畫面生意盎然，一洗寡索肅殺之氣氛。他師古而不拘泥，靈活遷移，自生變化，於此可見一斑。
他臨摹前人工筆畫時多有粉本，復按此寫出一本或多本，反複練習，或應他人所求而作。本幅目前所見亦有兩本，構圖幾無差距，題款相同，僅鈐印有異，可推知據粉本先後寫出。一為「大風堂」弟子糜耕雲收藏，他亦有臨本；本幅則早流出海外矣！
