註：吳琴木擅寫山水，花鳥涉獵極少，偶一動筆，即擬宋人畫法繪鳥石，蓋他役於龐虛齋氏，遍觀其書畫收藏，浸淫久之，汲古得法。本幅出手不凡，於殘臘歲盡寫冬景禽石，時令題材、畫面氣氛皆見配合，材質則選細絹，取其質地縝密，易於發墨現色，畫中凜洌之氣，撲面而至，沁人心脾，古意盎然，直見宋人刻劃之功。畫中山鷓兩隻端立石上，以朱黃少許點雀舌、爪，及嘴喙；八哥一雙，或探頭岩後，或攀枝上，似相視而鳴，背景襯以孤岩土坡，禿枝疏葉，或染花青，或施淡墨，蕭瑟清冷中，不失生機之趣！
