註：柳非杞（1911-1982），江蘇無錫人。抗戰期間，任職重慶華僑事務委員會，積極宣傳抗日。四九年後，先後任職上海市圖書館、上海文史館。他雅好詩詞，嗜書畫收藏。與藝文界相友善，多獲贈作品。部份收藏後捐贈中央文史館。
本幅寫於普濟禪院妙香堂，即劍父避兵遷居濠江時。他曾謂「獅子國老椰素無人寫，有之則自老劍始」，「獅子國」即今之斯里蘭卡，當時稱「錫蘭」，乃畫家一九三一年南遊所及之地，日後援引當地特產入畫，此亦「嶺南畫派」擅寫生取景之一証。同期寫有另幅，題曰「外樸內華」，以喻椰子，或以此寄意，遂屢圖之。
另，朵雲軒於「文革」前曾以本幅印製木版水印。
