of cylindrical form supported on three short feet, rising to a gently rounded rim, incised with a pavilion set beside aged trees and rocky hills, the reverse incised with a couplet from the Song dynasty poem Chunri, signed Yiweng (Qian Yuanchang) and dated to the Renzi year (1732), the bamboo patinated to a rich golden brown colour
Condition
The brushpot is in good condition. There are a few age cracks extending from the base. There are a few minor dents and expected occasional light ink stains to the interior rim.

The couplet on this brushpot can be translated as follows:
'Though swallows are not yet arrived plum blossoms have all fallen / But on the little window bright moonlight does now attach [cast shadows of] pear blossoms.' Signed Yiweng and dated to the Autumn day of the renzi year (1732). It is an excerpt from the poem Chunri [A Spring Day], recorded in the Quan Songshi [Complete Classical Verse of the Song], vol. 22, 1288:14615, where the author is identified as the Song dynasty monk Yunchang, zi Buqing.
