方召麐是現代中國一位步伐超前的女性，她可以代表一整批足跡遍布世界的文人。他們遇中國時局之動盪不穩，故往海外發展當代水墨，延續這一傳統。方氏幼年便隨私人老師習畫，後往英國曼徹斯特大學修讀歐洲歷史。婚後更曾師從趙少昂和張大千，前者教她國畫，後者則鼓勵她探究表現主義的繪畫。
方召麐經歷過文化大革命，畫中時常反映出一種倖存者的滄桑，也有對更加美好世界的贊禮。《遊湖》(拍品編號44) 及《港島賞望》(拍品編號45) 皆為其晚期罕見作品，呈現漁人安逸的日常生活。水面出奇的平靜，與其1970-80年代描繪越南難民逃離家鄉的一系列《船民圖》畫作中的翻騰浪濤很是不同。淡雅墨汁，簡單數筆，《遊湖》和《港島賞望》看似輕柔，卻傳遞了百姓質樸日子裡的安泰，滲透著一股祥和寧靜的力量。
