the circular domed cover carved with a central stylised flowerhead, surrounded by five ruyi heads, all within ten further ruyi heads bordering the rim, the box similarly carved with ten ruyi heads, all carved through dark brownish-black lacquer alternating with two red layers, the interior and base lacquered dark reddish-brown

Condition
There are age cracks to the box and cover, and a 1.7cm restored chip to the interior rim of the box. Other age cracks, bruising, minor lifting of the lacquer, and minor retouching. Pitting to the surface of the interior center of interior surface. There is a 3.5cm section of dotted bead marks to the interior of the foot, possibly from contact with the original textile. Approximately 1/2 of the rim of the cover has been stabilised. There is a 1.7cm shallow restored flake to the rim of the box and a 3.5cm section of restoration to the inner rim of the cover.
