靜物畫一直是我喜愛的主題。我由靜觀而提筆描繪…。觀照靜物，同時也觀照自我。東方的靜物畫，靜者是人；畫完一件靜物，等於獨處一段靜觀，心底得到極大的寧靜。

董小蕙對於樸拙厚實的木桌質感情有獨鍾，早期即常以黑桌靜物為主題。畫中描繪春日茶花的姿態，花葉出枝，粉茶色澤清新妍麗，背景光暈調和而生動，桌面上閃耀釉料光澤的茶杯、木質的紋理、綠釉的盆器、土壤中的小草，無不神韻天成，恰如其分；不僅展現盎然生意，也訴說著人文與時空的相互輝映，散發出靜謐而深邃的氛圍。畫家筆下所描繪的，不僅僅是單純靜物的外貌，而是對生命的反思沉詠。
