朱沅芷自「舊金山時期」（1926至27年）開始走上現代藝術之路，當中以恩師歐菲德（Otis Oldfield）之影響最為關鍵。歐氏在歐洲遊歷長達十三年，其自1926年起執教於加州藝術學院，隨即一洗該校的保守作風，大力推廣前衛思潮，並且創立「色域理論」（Color-Zoning），結合色彩韻律與幾何塊面，啟導朱沅芷邁向「共色主義」創作。本季的四項拍品，包括《歐菲德像》（拍品編號 5039）、三件一組的《沙加緬度的蘇特堡》、《蒙特瑞的史蒂文生故居》及《優勝美地的巨樹》（拍品編號 5040）、《歐菲德相冊》（拍品編號 5037）以及《照片集錦》（拍品編號 5038）均來自歐菲德舊藏，不但完整呈現了朱沅芷早年生活片段與創作經歷，更見證著兩人深厚的情誼。《歐菲德相冊》由歐菲德親手釘裝，裡面載有三十一張當年與朱沅芷遊歷期間所拍下的照片，以及歐菲德親手繪製的兩幅路線圖，完整紀錄了朱沅芷人生首次長途寫生之旅。
