This work is in very good condition. There are some signs of foxing along the edges, notably the bottom left corner, inherent to the aging process. The top right hand corner has a small tear in the paper about 0.1 centimeters in length.

用「現代眼」看花

「我們應該學習五代和宋朝的畫家，面對真實的山水、花鳥來起步來、來創作，純以『花』為繪畫的主題，只有在中國畫中獨有。西方人畫花，是插在瓶中，以加上了人工的改變，而中國人尊重自然，追求天趣。中國畫的花卉，更非植物標本，畫者已將花、枝、葉融在他的意念中，而以抽象的、書法的手法寫出。所要表現的是作者的思想，胸中的逸氣。因此中國畫中，又把有些植物、花朵用做象徵意義。如菊、竹、蘭、梅稱為四君子，象徵高潔…一千年來，花卉在固定的觀念中發展，層層因襲，而成為最陳腐的題材，固定的形式，缺乏創意。今天我要給予『花』以新的生命，再創造，用中國人的『現代眼』去觀察，以不同的材料去表現，看看是否能將這傳統的主題，賦以新的意義。

我們應該學習五代和宋朝的畫家，面對真實的山水、花鳥來起步、來創作。這樣才能逃開前人的束縛，展現自我的天地。把墨韻轉為色韻，重新建立設色的方法，再經過自己的思索，來把佈局、空間安排處理，不以水墨自動技法的花招而撩人，應以沉著穩健的筆勢達到內涵的充實。」
