This work is in good condition. There are scattered spots of foxing, due to aging. The left, right and top edges have faint frame marks.

「今天我已在這看到了那載滿陽光的梧桐樹,由鮮綠變為枯黃,由枯黃而飄落滿地…我在它們身邊,徘徊又徘徊…塞納河上的燈光,長長地閃動,我曾每夜在那注視,注視我的寂寞、孤零的漂泊歲月。不再是西湖上的光影了,那每一個波光都含著歡笑。那每一個波光都像故鄉人的眼睛。我哪能忘記淡水河上的燈光呢!當我駕著摩托車衝出人群,靜坐在三重埔的沙灘上,逃避城市的煩亂…。」

在1962至1966年,赴美國與歐洲遊歷,後居於巴黎的日子,西方的文化藝術開拓了席德進的視野。他試圖在海外闖蕩,努力地將自己的作品介紹給當地畫廊,並也如願分別在美國的亨利畫廊,與巴黎的Haut Pave畫廊舉辦個展;然而異鄉人的身分,始終讓他倍感寂寞,他開始思念他的故鄉。而這故鄉不是其他,就是他在過去曾居住十年的土地-那在夏天浸潤雨露、風光明媚的台灣。他懷念島嶼上的一切,認為那裡才是他創作真正的養分來源。在1966年,席德進決定歸國。
回台後他將自己投入在自然天地間的探索,帶著水彩筆與畫架四處寫生,他來到切切思念的淡水碼頭,《淡水漁舟》一作於焉誕生。此時的作品,展現一種經由時間錘鍊過後的滄桑、空茫與純熟。他以蕭蕭的淡然之筆、簡潔的色彩,將自然內含的一種「純粹」之美完整表現。 席德進曾說:「我常常在日落之前趕往淡水,看那潮退後浮現的沙灘、水流走後枯竭的河床…觀音山一筆青翠,從平直的沙洲昇起,又投射在靜止的水面;水就是天…觀音山的山色,是永恆的壯麗。」其下筆含納了他對土地的感念與真情,他將自身與水天的共鳴,藉由繪畫,化為永恆。
