This work is in good condition. There are scattered spots of foxing and a small mark of discolouration, both inherent to the aging process. The left most boat also has a grey line along the sail, which is probably a result of the creation process.

1966年3月31日席德進由巴黎啟程返國，結束了在海外四年的漂泊生活，途中行經羅馬、拿坡里、雅典、伊斯坦堡及曼谷等地，歷時兩個多月，一路寫生旅遊，並在香港九龍「上海匯豐銀行畫廊」舉辦個展後，才返抵台北。此畫為席德進在義大利南方的拿坡里停留時所作，描繪的正是傳唱百年的當地民謠「聖塔露西亞」（Santa Lucia）港灣的景色。畫面中心的雙峰為兩千年前因地底火山噴發運動，而讓整個龐貝城凝成一瞬，埋進土塵中的維蘇威火山。山脈靜靜地遠瞰漂浮在聖塔露西亞海面上的點點漁船，彷彿也看透了席德進這些年來，過盡千帆等待歸航的心。
