Running at the time of cataloguing, however may benefit from service in the near future. The crystal is very scratched, however beneath the crystal the dial appears to be in relatively good order. The bezel is missing. Bracelet is not original and has been replaced by Rolex. Watch has had extensive service in the past by Rolex, mostly documented in the August-October 1993 service paperwork which accompanies the watch.

此品於1960年代後期出廠後，就由原買家擁有達45年。他是一位美國資深潛水員，由精英的Underwater Demolition隊（海軍SEALS的前身）開始了他的職業生涯。他的功積遍布全球達數十年，並最終為美國政府效力。

在製作Sea-Dweller，型號1665的過程中，勞力士曾製作少量不同設計的手錶作實驗。其中最出名的型號包括the Comex Submariners，型號5514，及限量的型號5513和早期的Patent-Pending Sea-Dwellers，型號1665。此品是於設計過程中產生的原模型，鮮為人知，只製作少量並只供專業潛水員作實地測試用。

在型號1665推出市場予大眾之前，前面提及的測試型號錶殼較薄，沒有排氣閥。在實驗時，很多都承受不了深海潛水的壓力。所以此品的錶圈在一次超過200米水深的海難救助潛水中遺失了。

這些原模型手錶配備的錶盤與標準的型號1665錶盤不同，今日稱為Mark 00，或「Single Red」 Sea-Dweller錶盤。第一行「Sea-Dweller」字樣印成紅色，之後一行「Submariner 500 M- 1650 FT」則印白色。之後的例子可見「Submariner 2000」及兩行均是紅色，所以稱「Double Red」Sea-Dweller。 在勞力士標誌的下一行，「Date」字樣印得比前面的「Oyster Perpetual」字較大。估計勞力士在維修時更換了很多錶盤，只剩少量如上的錶盤，更顯得此品的珍貴，勞力士曾於1993年維修此品。

此型號比勞力士運動型號收藏家所夢寐以求的「夢想」手錶「Double Red」Sea-Dweller更自成一家。「Single Red」Sea-Dweller只在學者的文章中被提及，而型號罕見於拍賣。
