Condition

Very good condition overall with some minor dents to the surface, notably to the back of Venus and traces of dirt in the crevices. Very fine patina, desirable bronze.

Originaire de Gênes, Francesco Fanelli partit pour l'Angeleterre où il fut appointé sculpteur du roi Charles Ier. Il se fit une spécialité des bronzes de petit format dont plusieurs exemples sont visibles à Londres, au V. & A. Museum (cf. M. Schwartz, op. cit., p. 88-89). Un bronze du même modèle se trouve dans la Abbott Guggenheim Collection.
